ONNI Culture Night

Tijdens ONNI Culture Night staat het thema Culture & Imperialism centraal. Sam Uittenbogaart, co-founder van House of Knowledge, is de curator van de avond. Verwacht boeiende gesprekken over kolonialisme, een indrukwekkende short film en een interactief kunstproject. Geniet van muziek door DJ Mixturess en heerlijke Sri Lankaanse hapjes. Dit wordt een avond vol diepgang en verbinding. De avond is geheel Engels gesproken (scroll down for English). 

Programma (inloop vanaf 19.15 uur)

• Opening door Rochelle van Maanen (educator en creatief producent)
  Rochelle opent de avond met een reflectie op het thema Culture & Imperialism. Rochelle is gespecialiseerd in de geschiedenis van kolonialisme en slavernij in Indonesië en staat bekend om haar werk in educatie en bewustwording.
• Gesprek met Sam Uittenbogaart
  Sam, de curator van de ONNI Culture Night en oprichter van House of Knowledge, deelt haar inzichten over de kracht van kunst en cultuur om inclusieve gesprekken te stimuleren. Sam is een creatieve ondernemer en expert in Urban Arts en talentontwikkeling en heeft een scherp oog voor het samenbrengen van verleden en heden in culturele programma’s.
• Short film screening: Porcelain White
  De avond gaat verder met de vertoning van Porcelain White, een krachtige korte film van Venuri Perera en Zwoisy Mears-Clarke. In deze film onderzoeken de kunstenaars hun gedeelde ‘whitened’ erfenis en de complexiteit van neokoloniale ruimtes. Deze film biedt stof tot nadenken over de rol van koloniale praktijken in hedendaagse samenlevingen.
• Talk met Nuraini Juliastuti & Nira Wickramasinghe, gemodereerd door Rochelle van Maanen
  In een boeiend gesprek, geleid door Rochelle van Maanen, gaan onderzoekers Nira Wickramasinghe en Nuraini Juliastuti dieper in op het kolonialisme in het oosten en de doorwerking ervan in de moderne tijd. Ze delen inzichten over de geschiedenis van koloniale overheersing in de Indische Oceaan en bespreken hoe deze geschiedenis doorwerkt in hedendaagse kunst, activisme en erfgoed.
• Workshop: Batikken voor Familieherinnering met Shelly Lapré
  De avond biedt ook de mogelijkheid om deel te nemen aan een artistieke workshop onder leiding van kunstenaar Shelly Lapré. Deelnemers zullen met technieken zoals batik, schilderen en het verwerken van oude familiefoto’s hun eigen familieverhaal omzetten in een kunstwerk. Dit project, geïnspireerd door Shelly's eigen familiegeschiedenis in de Nederlandse Oost-Indië, creëert een visuele tribute aan familie-erfgoed en vormt een tastbare herinnering voor toekomstige generaties.
• Afsluiting met DJ Mixturess & Sri Lankaanse hapjes
  De avond wordt afgesloten met een energieke set van DJ Mixturess, die het publiek uitnodigt om de avond dansend af te sluiten. Daarnaast worden er heerlijke Sri Lankaanse hapjes geserveerd, waardoor bezoekers niet alleen kunnen genieten van muziek, maar ook van de smaak van deze rijke cultuur.

• Talk with Sam Uittenbogaart
  Sam, the curator of ONNI Culture Night and founder of House of Knowledge, will share her insights on how art and culture can foster inclusive conversations. A creative entrepreneur and expert in Urban Arts and talent development, Sam has a keen eye for connecting the past and present in cultural programs.
• Short Film Screening: Porcelain White
  The evening continues with a screening of Porcelain White, a powerful short film by Venuri Perera and Zwoisy Mears-Clarke. In this film, the artists explore their shared ‘whitened’ heritage and the complexity of navigating neocolonial spaces. It offers thought-provoking insights into the role of colonial practices in contemporary societies.
• Talk with Nuraini Juliastuti & Nira Wickramasinghe, moderated by Rochelle van Maanen
  In a captivating discussion led by Rochelle, researchers Nira Wickramasinghe and Nuraini Juliastuti will dive deeper into Eastern colonialism and its modern-day effects. They will share insights on the history of colonial rule in the Indian Ocean and discuss how this history influences contemporary art, activism, and heritage.
• Workshop: Batik for Family Memories with Shelly Lapré
  Participants will also have the opportunity to join an artistic workshop led by artist Shelly Lapré. Using techniques such as batik, painting, and incorporating old family photos, attendees will transform their family stories into artworks. Inspired by Shelly's own family history in the Dutch East Indies, this project creates a visual tribute to family heritage and forms a tangible memory for future generations.
• Closing with DJ Mixturess & Sri Lankan Snacks
  The evening wraps up with an energetic set from DJ Mixturess, inviting the audience to dance the night away. Alongside the music, delicious Sri Lankan snacks will be served, offering visitors the chance to enjoy both the sound and taste of this rich culture.
